Vehicle Sales & Fulfillment Policy

Last updated: April 2026 | How vehicle sales are handled between dealers and buyers on Shift Lot.

1. Shift Lot's Role

Shift Lot is a marketplace platform that connects licensed dealers with qualified buyers. Shift Lot does not:

  • Own, sell, or take title to any vehicles
  • Handle vehicle delivery, transportation, or logistics
  • Process or hold payment for vehicle sales
  • Guarantee vehicle condition, warranties, or legal compliance

Shift Lot facilitates communication between dealers and buyers. All negotiations, pricing, terms, and agreements are made directly between the dealer and buyer.

2. Dealer Responsibilities

Dealers who list vehicles on Shift Lot agree to:

  • Provide accurate descriptions, pricing, mileage, and condition information for each listing
  • Disclose all relevant vehicle history, defects, and issues to buyers
  • Comply with all applicable vehicle disclosure laws and regulations
  • Respond to buyer inquiries in a timely and professional manner, or clearly indicate unavailability
  • Complete all vehicle inspections, title transfers, and legal paperwork required in the dealer's jurisdiction
  • Handle vehicle pickup, delivery arrangements, and logistics directly with the buyer at their own expense
  • Provide appropriate warranties or "as-is" disclosures as applicable by law and dealer option
  • Keep vehicle listings current and remove sold or unavailable vehicles promptly

3. Vehicle Availability

Dealers are responsible for keeping their inventory accurate. If a vehicle is sold or becomes unavailable:

  • The dealer must remove the listing immediately to prevent buyer confusion
  • Dealers should update inventory regularly, especially if using manual listings
  • If a buyer inquires about an unavailable vehicle, the dealer must notify the buyer promptly
  • Shift Lot may remove inactive or outdated listings per our policies

4. Buyer Responsibilities

Buyers using Shift Lot agree to:

  • Communicate honestly and clearly with dealers
  • Review vehicle listings carefully and ask questions before arranging viewings
  • Conduct their own inspections and research on vehicle history, condition, and value
  • Negotiate directly with dealers regarding price, financing, and terms
  • Complete any inspections or test drives before committing to a purchase

5. Payment and Financing

Shift Lot does not process, hold, or transfer payment for vehicle sales. Buyers and dealers must arrange payment directly, either:

  • In person at the dealer's location
  • Via wire transfer, cashier's check, or other agreed-upon method
  • Through third-party financing or lender if applicable

Buyers and dealers are responsible for securing appropriate financing and insurance independently.

6. Vehicle Inspection and Testing

Buyers should inspect vehicles thoroughly before purchase. Dealers may offer inspections or video tours at their discretion. All inspection arrangements are made directly between the buyer and dealer.

Buyers are responsible for arranging independent inspections if desired (e.g., pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic).

7. Delivery and Logistics

All vehicle delivery, pickup, and transportation arrangements are made directly between the buyer and dealer. Shift Lot does not:

  • Arrange or pay for vehicle transport
  • Provide shipping or delivery services
  • Assume liability for vehicles in transit

Dealers and buyers may use third-party transport services at their own cost and risk.

8. Title and Registration

The dealer is responsible for:

  • Verifying the vehicle title is clear and transferable
  • Providing the buyer with all necessary title documents
  • Completing title transfer as required by local law
  • Disclosing any liens, salvage titles, or other title issues upfront

9. Warranties and "As-Is" Sales

Warranty terms are set by the dealer and must comply with applicable state and local law. The dealer may offer:

  • Express warranties (written coverage terms)
  • "As-is" sales with no warranty, as permitted by law
  • Extended warranty options at additional cost

The dealer must clearly disclose warranty terms in the listing or during negotiation.

10. Disputes and Returns

Disputes over vehicle condition, misrepresentation, or performance should be resolved directly between the buyer and dealer, or through applicable consumer protection laws in the buyer's jurisdiction.

Shift Lot is not responsible for disputes, returns, or refunds related to vehicle sales. If a buyer believes they have been defrauded or deceived, they may pursue legal remedies through their local authorities or courts.

11. Insurance and Liability

Dealers: Are responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance for vehicles on their lot and during sales.

Buyers: Are responsible for obtaining insurance for any vehicle they purchase before taking delivery or possession.

Shift Lot:Does not assume liability for vehicle damage, loss, or accidents. Shift Lot's liability is limited to the extent permitted by law.

12. Compliance with Law

All vehicle sales must comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, including:

  • Vehicle disclosure and odometer laws
  • Consumer protection regulations
  • Dealer licensing and conduct requirements (dealers must be licensed where required)
  • Title transfer and registration laws

Dealers are solely responsible for ensuring their listings and sales practices comply with all applicable laws.

13. Changes to This Policy

Shift Lot may update this fulfillment policy at any time. Changes will apply to listings posted or sales made after the update. Continued use of the platform means you accept the updated policy.
